Cancelling Second Hand Car Purchase

If you want to cancel it's better to do so before they have arranged shipping for the vehicle or incurred any costs - once they have paid out you're likely to be liable for the costs (firstly from your deposit, but they may also pursue you for additional costs if it is more than the deposit you paid).
Thanks for that. Sounds like I should get down there tomorrow and cancel the contract (in writing of course!)
If by their own admission, they can't ship until the plate is allocated,
they can't have incurred any costs.F.F.C.0 -

They may be able to claim some administrative costs. If they say they won't refund your payment in full ask them for a schedule which accounts for any money they intend to retain.Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!0 -

And I assume they must be "reasonable" costs?
To be honest I would rather lose the £300 than to deal with these people. It's difficult to explain in an online post and you had to be there. They led us to believe the car would be ours today and that was a total fiction. My partner had her insurance documents with her at work waiting for the call to arrange cover and pick up the car. I work in a Service department and good service is all about managing peoples expectations. They told us what they needed to in order to get a signature and deposit.
Thanks for your help.F.F.C.0 -
Yes, any costs must be reasonable and they must take steps to mitigate any losses.Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!0

If they've already admitted their salesperson made an error, then as it's the car you wanted, why not try and negotiate a further discount due to the inconvenience?Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -

I have been away so haven't had chance to reply.
Pinkshoes: I would haggle if I wanted to do business with Arnold Clark but, even if I did get further discount, I am not convinced I could trust them or their warranty, so I would rather walk away now.
The good news is that I have had no response from my letter to them, other than the deposit being refunded to my credit card :T. In the meantime I found Mrs FFC another convertible with red leather seats and she is very happy :j (or she would be if the great British weather would allow her to let her top down
)
Thanks to everybody who provided adviceF.F.C.0
