Pre-selected for credit card

Does pre-selected from my own bank for a credit card just mean that my name has come up on a marketing system
Or is it my own bank inviting me to apply.
I have heard conflicting stories, pre- approved, pre-selected
Thanks

Marketing-speak to fool the unwary into believing they have a better-than-average chance at actually receiving a card. In essence, you are in a no better position tan if you applied out the blue.0

Not always (although it will depend on the exact wording of the offer).Marketing-speak to fool the unwary into believing they have a better-than-average chance at actually receiving a card. In essence, you are in a no better position tan if you applied out the blue.
I've had around 4 or 5 guaranteed offers from Halifax over recent years, and got them all. Likewise, LTSB offered me a guaranteed card last year with an £8K limit. When I accepted their offer that's exactly what I got...an £8K limit.
That said, First Direct guaranteed me a £10K limit Gold Card several years ago and then reneged when I applied (suspect they declined on CII data as I was heavily indebted at the time due to stoozing activities).
So, as I say, not always.0 -
Thanks, Appreciated0

Didn't stick around long enough to find out, and yes it was probably 5 or 6 years ago.Dr_Cuckoo3 wrote: »just wondering whether they offered it to you again (guaranteed or not ) after that (I assume a few years have passed)
Only joined them for the £100 incentive, and used this incident as one of the reasons for claiming the additional £100 leaving present.0 -
