only real difference is that most BT lines will only get 2mb max. (depends where you are).
ie ntl can get 8mb and up easy.
you will need a new wifi router if you go cable.Get some gorm.0 -
thanks will probably stick with phoneline as don't really need superfast net0

true for me too, bt/aol 2 mb is enough for what i do.
my son (8mb ntl) does serious DL games/dvd/vids/music etc. all the time, he thinks my connection is pathetic!Get some gorm.0 -

I don't know the source of your information but it is wrong. My connection connects at just over 7mbps and the max is 8mbps. if the source is good I get a download speed of about 680k without a problem.
Speedson a phone line all depend on your distance to the exchange and the quality of the wire. My exchange is less than 1km round trip, its at the top of the street and turn right. it used to be our local corner to hang arround on.0 -

absolute rubbish that the max you can get is 2mbit - you can get up to 24mbit with llu.
cable tends to be quicker yes and in general (until virgin takeover) more stable/less issues with contention. Also with cable you don't need a phoneline as well, you can just get the broadband package - with a bit of cunning negotiation we got a 10mbit unlimited package for £10/month and they credited our account with £55 for a wireless router. All in all thats 1 years 10mbit unlimited broadband for £65.0 -

Which service provider was that and how did you go about it, where you a new customer?0 -
was when they were still ntl had it installed 4mbit @ £25ish a month about 2-3 weeks in we called up saying sky were offering 16mbit for £10/month with free wireless router so as still in 30 day cooling off period would like to cancel. Got offered 4mbit for £10 and £55 credit to buy a router. Week or so later phoned up and asked to cancel again as 4mbit was far less than the 16mbit being offered for the same money on sky - they offered 10mbit for £10.0

just for my half penny byte is different to bit
currently bt are offering adsl max wich is upto 8mpbs. it will depend on your cable length from the exchange to how close you get to 8mb and as far as i am aware is also affected by usage from your fellow exchange users. so you will get a slower speed at peak times. for example this afternoon i had 4.5mb but tonight 2.6mb download speed.
i dont think that cable is subject to these constraints so you should be able to get whatever0
