0% deal with current provider?

I have a credit card with a £1,500 credit limit and a £0.00 balance. I'm looking for a 0% interest deal just now. Is it ok to ask them outright for a 0% deal?

I could apply to other companies but I thought I'd first of all try with one of the companies I'm already with first.

Asking your current provider should avoid the need for a credit search, and all the associated setting up, waiting, etc, so yes it would make sense to ask them first.

Some providers, eg MBNA, are better than others with existing customer deals. Which card is it?

It's Santander. It's a money transfer I'm after but I'm not sure they do money transfers - maybe just balance transfers.
