Connecting old PC to wifi

Can I use a dongle to connect an old PC to my home wifi? I thought it might be possible but tried and no idea how to do it (if it is possible).

If you have a spare PCI slot, install a PCI Wireless Card. Neater than external gubbins.

Get the card from Maplin or similar stores, follow instructions and/or look on YouTube for video guides on what to do.

Just plugged the dongle in and faffed around a bit. didnt really know what to do.

install driver, connect to network (ssid), type in encryption key and type. - all that information is availaible by logging into the router interface from another machine if you don't know them

Do you have any specific faff methodology? Is it possible this dongle doesn't have a wifi receiver? It's about 4 years old, vodafone model k3520.

thats a mobile broadband dongle, not a wifi dongle
