Amazon Prime - Worth It?

This is my second year of Amazon Prime and, basically, it comes the next day 80% of the time for me. I am in central London with an office reception open from 0630-2200 so no excuse really - esp as it's not always the courier who is at fault.
Had some real rubbish service. When I complain they say, "we'll credit you with a free month of Amazon Prime"... not getting why I wouldn't want another month of a service that doesn't work 100% of the time (and I order a lot so it actually does matter)
Really, I don't care whose fault it is, I just want the product the next day like I've paid so I won't be renewing my current contract of 16 months of Amazon Prime (I've stopped complaining about stuff taking 48hrs now because I don't want the free month tagged on
) 0 -
Oh dear. I have decided to try it properly for a year and my first two orders come within the specified 24hrs, including a Saturday! Place orders today and they are marked as dispatched for delivery for tomorrow, so will see how it pans out, so far so good.0

Let us know how it goes dave. but I would side with jonesMFCUforever - it makes you a loyal customer when there could be savings elsewhere. Rapid delivery is a parlour trick in the face of real savings!0

Is Amazon intentionally delaying the delivery so that buyers pay £50/year for Prime service?
My parcel sat on their warehouse for 3 days and then they delivered using their standard courier service. The actual delivery took just 1 day.
I thought one pays extra for the speedy delivery service and not as a ransom to "release" the product early from their warehouse!Happiness is buying an item and then not checking its price after a month to discover it was reduced further.0 -
Good topic.
Have been thinking about it for a while as the seller for me is the speed. Many times I am far too impatient to wait for items for 5 days so next day would be great.
Do I think it is worth it? Not sure. Haven't bought it yet (despite having two free trials) and can't bring myself to do it at the moment. But I do think it's good value if you get a lot of stuff from Amazon (which I do). £50 for a whole year isn't much... 13p a day.
I get stuff maybe once a month on average. People who get less than that I wouldn't say it's worth it.0 -
I worked it out price wise by going through my account history and seeing what items I could have waited for and which I couldn't. I then added up the number of items I would have paid extra for postage to get next day. It came to a LOT more than the Prime fee, so on that basis I am now using Prime. So far I have bought the same amount that I would have done anyway, not everything has been Prime eligible, but most have and all delivered next day. I much prefer it to high street.....!0

Been using Prime since it first started in 2008, and it is convenient.
Nothing like as useful now, though, as it was. The reason? The new Add-On programme introduced earlier this year, under which a lot of smaller items which used to be delivered free of charge with Prime now involve spending £20 to get the free delivery which used to be included.
Amazon were sneaky about this, too. First, they changed this part-way through the membership year, so that people who'd already paid the £49 lost out. And secondly, they tried to pretend (and still do) that the items now excluded from free delivery are new items that weren't there before. That's just a plain lie - though perhaps that's normal for Amazon, given the way they structure their tax affairs.
There's an Amazon discussion thread here:
