in Credit cards
Hi, I know someone who works in BHS at is 17 ( 18 in November) . This person has been told by her manager to ask the customers if they want a credit/store card when they serve them.
This person has now completed 2 applications online and the bank as accepted the customers for the card.
Is it legal for a 17 year old to do this ?
thanks
James

I would say so - most retailers push their staff to do this and (as a sweeping generalisation) employ young people so I'd imagine it'd have been brought up as an issue by now.My Debt Free Diary

im not sure if theres actually any law for under 18's getting credit. Its just that the contract is not legally binding if they are not 18.
if theres no law about getting credit, theres most likly no law for selling it either.
this is of course, just a guess
besides, it is fine for 17 year olds to sell age restricted items like alcohol if they get approval0 -
Why are you bothered by this?0

Do I get that right......your friend has now enrolled two new customers to apply for the store/credit card, put the customer's particulars through the computer and those two customers were accepted by the card provider?
Why should it not be legal for a 17 year old to input someone's application? It is not that she had applied for credit facilities to be given to herself?0 -

Not as bad as one place I worked (very briefly) - they told me I was to take card payments from the spouse of the cardholder even if the actual cardholder wasn't there.
I did point out that this can be viewed as my being an accomplice to fraud which is a criminal offence on my part which I could be held accountable for.
It was a very brief employment.Cashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48
