Santander Mortgage Advice

  • Although the rate was a major consideration. My main criteria was the speed of getting the mortgage sorted out. I thought that porting the existing loan would be the quickest, simplest option. I had three telephone conversations with Alliance & Leicester prior to the Santander interview all of these conversations suggested that porting would be swift & straightforward, because I was an existing customer & the additional lending was minimal. I also ran through A&L's affordability questions during two of the calls & the outcome of both was entirely positive, "passing" on each occasion.

Interestingly I had a conversation today with another Santander Mortgage Advisor & although he stuck to their mad policy re second properties, he did agree that some of the costs added to mine where difficult to understand & the figure was reduced by £63/month using his
calculations. There is clearly an element of subjectiveness from different advisors. Unfortunately because my case was not his he could not alter the figure on the application. So back to square one.
