Contemplating combining box bedrooms...

Looking for some advice, I stay in a maisonette flat (over two floors) and currently have two box rooms which fit double beds but not much else at the moment - personally I find the rooms small and dark. One of the neighbors has turned this into one big room and it looks fantastic, so much so I'm thinking of doing something similar.
Ive been able to determine that the walls that would need to be removed are only stud walls and aren't supporting the roof in any way.
My questions would be:
Does this seem like a good idea?
Will it impact the value of my flat if I go from 3 bedrooms to 2? (I already have a bedroom downstairs)
Would this be costly?

Speak to an estate agent about values. Usually an extra room means more value.0

We did this in our house years ago , we did it ourselves and it worked well until we came to put it up for sale we were advised to put it back to 3 bedrooms which was a lot more hassle .This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Thanks for the responses, I find it daft that two tiny box rooms would add more value than one large open plan room, but what do I know...0
