Longleat, Cheddar Gorge 2-3 day trip

Hi, I am planning to go for a trip (2-3 days) to Longleat & Cheddar Gorge in September/October with my wife and 3yr old daughter. I do not have a Car and dependent on public transport. Can some please help me with how I need to plan and what places I can visit and where I can stay. Thanks, Gururaja.

Longleat is the harder of the two by public transport - the best answer is given here

Cheddar is accessible by bus from Weston-super-Mare

I live about half way between the two. Somerset and Wiltshire are not known for having a great bus service.
Have you thought of staying in Bath?
You can get buses to many places from here, although I am struggling to find one to longleat for you. you may be able to get a bus/train to frome and then a taxi? or if you can drive, hire a car for just 1 day for longleat.
Have a look at the firstgroup web site for bus timetables. There are plenty of other places you can visit if longleat is going to be a problem getting to. Cheddar shouldn't be a problem.

I completely forgot about Bristol. Also has a good bus/train service as well and probably cheaper than bath for accommodation.
