Credit file query

I had a couple of personal loans go into default a few years back (all settled in full now thankfully).

One of them was taken over this year by another company who seem to have renewed the default on my file, consequently it won't not be off my file until September 2018.

If I asked them, to you think they would be amenable to revising the date to whatever the end date should have been before they took it over??

They probably won't be amenable to it but they're required by law to put it back to what it was.

They're not allowed to change the date.

Yes, they should not have changed the default date.

Complain and instruct them (not ask) to change it back to the original. Don't take no for an answer.

Well - they've refused to change it. Can anyone expand on how I should take things from here?

Complain again and tell them that you will unless they correct the maliciously false information on your credit file, then you will be taking the matter to the FOS and making a formal complaint to the ICO.
