Re-wiring and new central heating - what first?

Hey

Just moved into our first home. We need a rewire and new CH installed.

Whats best to get done first, or doesnt it matter?

Well both will need floorboards up, but I'd be inclined to get rewire done first & then ch as then there is no likelihood of new radiators getting messed up or damaged. This is the way my last house was done when refurbishment was going on, anyway.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

From a safety view the wiring would be. Just ensure you do need rewiring. How many tradespeople have you called in to check?

    Hello

We defiantly need a re-wire, the current setup is very old. 2 single sockets for the living room. The quote we had was from a family friend an is just under what we had budgeted for. As fpr the CH. We have had 2 out, one quoted us, we are waiting on the other.

    Thanks

The wiring needs to be done first. This is because the gas fitter will have certain requirements of the electrician before he can issue an installation certificate. One of these is that the gas meter needs to be earth bonded and another is that the boiler needs tobe hard wired (not on a plug) via a fused spur switch. If these are not in place (which are unlikely given your description) the ga fitter can't complete his work until the electrician has been.

Was in this position last year and had them both done with the rewire happening just ahead of the central heating...as others have said the floorboards need to be up for both...
Indeed our electrian worked inconjunction with our gas fitter to ensure bonding was in place etc

Although we also factored in a skim of the walls following the rewire so didnt actually have the radiators to the wall until this was complete.

I disagree that one comes 1st, given that these are 2 major upheaval projects, they have to be done together, there is too much overlap to ignore.

You need to involve the sparks and the plumber, and let them work out how best to proceed.

Of course I'm assuming you can afford 2 majors simultaneously;)
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed
