    Hi.
Like others before me this is the first time I have posted on a forum but am hoping someone can help!

Two years ago my husband and I went into our local PC World store (Worcester) and were persuaded to rent a laptop on their rentsmart scheme. My husband was the sole trader of his own business although the contract is actually in my name. I think it is too late to cancel the contract on those terms and outcomes to an end next month - I have checked and double checked and the length of term is stated as 24 months everywhere!

However, there are a couple of things I find confusing:-

    1) the PC world receipt shows a cost of £211.20 against "whatever happens" cover but the paperwork states in several places that "as part of the lease agreement you will be provided with the "whatever happens" product support, which will apply throughout the term of the lease agreement, there is no additional charge for this service."

    2) we have been paying £39 per month over 24 months - a total sum of over £900 - for a laptop worth £399.99 in October 2011. Even allowing for the £211.20 charge of £211.20 this comes to about £610 so can anyone tell me what the difference of approximately £300 is for? There is no mention of it anywhere.

    3) we were also told we would be able to purchase the laptop for about £25 at the end of the term but there is no mention is made of this in the letter received today - we can just upgrade, return it or carry on renting it for the same price but without the whatever happens cover.

As an aside, I did have to contact the help desk at whatever happens for a problem I had - I ended up having to phone on six occasions before the problem was resolved having been told conflicting things with each phone call!

Thank you in advance for any help or advice anyone can give me.

You'll need to let us know what questions you have. At the moment you seem to have posted a story about letting yourself be sold something that wasn't a great deal, is it just a warning to others to be careful?

If so, I'll chip in one of my own. I was appproached in a bar last night by a young lady wearing few clothes, suggesting that it would be a great idea if I were to buy some "tequila shots" off her. I'd already had what I now judge to be more than enough drinks previously, or else I'd never have agreed to pay £10 per shot, let alone to buy her one.

There's no way that this was worth the cost, I now see, and I'm wondering if this tequila was mis-sold.

Almost definitely missold. I am a leading missold broker and for a nominal fee* I will place your claim with a suitably qualified legal representative on a no win, no additional fee basis.

Kindly send me your debit card details and we can proceed with your claim.

    Best regards

  • I would like help with my problem with Rentsmart. I bought a ipad at Currys 2 years ago and was told that after the two years the ipad would be mine or I could upgrade. Now I am being told by Rentsmart that I must either return the ipad or upgrade. No other option is available. So this means I have paid over £600 for the ipad, only to give it back! They are coming to pick it up on Wednesday. I am furious. I told the person on the phone that it was ridiculous that they would take back a used ipad rather than let me keep it. I even offered to pay another 3 months on it but they said if I wanted it I would have to pay for another year!!! That means the ipad would cost £900 altogether. Surely they cannot get away with this. What if I just refuse to give it back? Could I get away with that? Could they carry on taking money from my bank even if I cancel the direct debit? Would be grateful for any help on this matter.

Depends on what your agreement states, but if it says title doesn't pass to you they could report it as stolen
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

Could have saved up that amount and bought one outright. An expensive way to get to keep an ipad.
