bank account for small amounts of money

I am looking to set up a joint account with my partner but it will only be for buying the weekly shopping so probably won't have more than £400 a month going in it - possibly less if we get a bit more MSE with our shopping!

Any suggestions for a bank that doesn't have fees and will give us 2 bank cards for such a small amount going in each month. We don't need an overdraft, cheque book or anything like that.

We are in Scotland if that makes any difference.

I have an online Smile (Co-op) bank account as a secondary account and pay in about £700/month. There's a fee-free £500 overdraft for the first year. I only have one card with it but I imagine if you set it up as a joint account you can get 2 cards. I got a cheque book with it but I think I've only written 2 cheques in the 18 months or so that I've had it.

Did you need to go to a branch to set it up or was it all done online? I have looked at accounts before with favourable terms and conditions but would have to travel 100+ miles to get to a branch to be able to provide ID etc to satisfy the money laundering systems.

I am no expert, but i would open a credit card account, get two cards for it, and just pay it off whenever you return from the shops?
Especially if you shop at Tesco what with their clubcard credit card.

That wouldn't do. Mr T is soooo laid back nothing would ever get paid off. At the moment we take it week about doing the shopping but it isn't always fair so the joint account is for putting shopping and joint purchase money in.
