    Let me to know that solar thermal systems capture the sun heat and use it to heat the water.
    The sun heats up a "solar liquid" , inside the solar heat collector on the roof. There is a control that tell you if the liquid is hotter then the water in the tank. A pump their basically pumps the liquid from the collector into water tank. The solar liquid flows water through a pipe coiling inside the hot water tank and heats it up.
    This kind of system is cheaper compared of using solar panels for providing electricity for your home. Can you imagine that it even works on cloudy days. I just love it!

    Sounds good, but my home and most new homes don't have a water tank anymore so that's be an extra cost in installing.

    Can you get the Feed In Tariff for other forms of electricity generation? My house does not face south but I am still keen to generate some money by using ethical power generation.

    Several forms of power generation qualify for FITs http://www.energysavingtrust.org.uk/Generating-energy/Getting-money-back/Feed-In-Tariffs-scheme-FITs

    I'm not quite sure what kinds of generation qualify as "ethical", though!
    If it sticks, force it.
    If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

    The house does not need to face south, and most roofs have a front and rear giving you two options.

    Provided the roof is not north facing, anywhere from east to west can receive pv panels. The closer to south the higher the output, but roof pitch angle and location in the UK also come into it.

    do you mean ethical or do you mean which ones are the government going to pay you to install?!

  • Hi, quick question. I have been quoted £8000 for a 4kw solar panel system. The F.I.T benefits have been given as around £1200 per year. Seems a bit high so thought I would post to gauge opinion.
    Thanks

    A local company advertising in the freeby local advertising is offering 4kW from £4500. A competitor has just gone out of business. He was offering at £6500. With both I do not know what the small print is.

    Your FIT benefit sounds sounds suspect to me. Do your figures based on 3200kW and again at 3600kW. What do these figures give you?

    Or, what kW is the system stated to produce each year?

    As an addition, make sure you are satisified that the annual prediction has been carefully, and thoroughly, predicted.

    Hiya Grellian, it will depend on your location and the roof pitch and orientation, and shading but if generation is about 3,500kWh pa, then you'd be looking at (roughly):

    FIT = 3,500*14.9p = £521
    Export (deemed 50%) = 3,500/2 *4.64p = £80
    Leccy savings guess (£80 to £160) = £120
    Total = £721

    Cost wise, £8k is a bit high. Before the EU v's China trade war (Mar to Aug this year) some people on the G&E forum were mentioning prices of mid and low £5k. Hopefully they will re-settle near there, but perhaps £6k at moment is a reasonable but tight target.
