Bought a Hotpoint 9kg washing machine last year and have washed a 4.5 tog superking duvet without any problems.

I have a 10.5Kg Bosch & it washes kingsize quilts with no problems. However it has a backwards-tilted drum & automatically detects unbalanced loads; it cost an arm & a leg (on interest-free credit from a local shop) but so far (6 years in) it's been worth every penny & touch wood, hasn't cost us anything in repairs yet. There are 7 people living in the house plus others coming & going; a smaller or cheaper machine would have been a false economy.

It makes no difference if the machine is not balanced properly or overstuffed with it will be with a kingsize duvet in it is likely to shred the door seal or rip the spindles which hold the drum.. You can't get enough water in to wash a duvet without the weight being over the limit and if it shuts off at the weight there isn't enough water in to wash it anyway.

It is then classed as malicious/deliberate overloading which caused a breakage which is not covered under warranty.
Mine definitely washes quilts without overloading, because it has a display that tells you if you have overdone it, and I haven't yet. It also re-balances the load if it needs to. Mine hasn't needed to because even with two quilts and pillows it wasn't full. :D

Really domestic washing machines are not designed to wash duvets and you can tend to overload the unit and break them.

Its always recommended to have them washed at a launderette in the larger commercial machines.

A lot of washing machines will not detect if the load is too much fro the drum and bearings and sooner or later they fail and you are needing to buy a new washing machine.

This machine has a specific bedding n bath programme and a duvet programme.

I've washed it and fit !!! with plenty of room for a pillow at least to fit inside.
I think it's an 11.5 tog?? It's on the line atm.

I've now got the kids duvets in the wash now.

I'm so chuffed I purchased it now, it fits all our needs and energy saving a+++ too!! I think I'm in love with it!
