  • Also tried and tested and found perfectly acceptable are Basics frozen prawns, toasting muffins, Scotch pancakes & crumpets and also tinned pineapple pieces. Their range of Basics baking items well worth buying too.

Avoid their version of cream cheese which contains 'Wheat Fibre, Citrus Fibre, Stabilisers: Tara Gum, Xanthan Gum.'

Ditto baked beans which are very watery.

Fresh potatoes are good. They look a bit grotty but who cares if they're going to be peeled anyway.

Oh and though not food and not sold online the basics men's socks are excellent, they used to be 3 pairs for £1 though I am sure they are quite a bit more now. They last for years and don't fade xx

    The women's are £2 for 5 pains.

I buy the basics frozen berries to make smoothies or crumbles. I also like the basics potatoes, chopped tomatoes, scourers, dried pasta tubes and spaghetti, fizzy water, food bags, flour and smoked salmon trimmings.

I've bought these a few times and they're fine for pasta sauces and putting in scrambled eggs - you do find the odd bone and sometimes they can be a bit too fishy though. The main downside to them is that they don't seem to be regularly stocked, and the price recently shot up from under £1 per pack to £1.50.

Basics stuff from Mr S is generally quite good in my opinion. They all have a label on them which says that if you try and don't like, simply return to store for a refund. Mr A does the same, but surprisingly, no such labeling on Mr T's Everyday Value range?!

Here are some basics items I have bought and been very happy with:
All fruit and veg (except bananas where loose bananas are cheaper)
    Handwash
    3-pack of soap
    Size 4 nappies
Jaffa Cakes (I think these are actually nicer than the real thing for the same reasons someone else here doesn't like them - the filling is more orangey tasting, chocolate layer is just perfect and the sponge has a small bite to it - lovely!)
    Chocolate Digestives
    Custard Creams
White, Milk and Dark Chocolate (just tried Mr T's white choc last night and it was disgusting - sickeningly sweet, tasted more of sugar than chocolate but Mr S's chocolate are all lovely in comparison)
    Pasta
    Tinned tomatoes
    Vegetable Soup

Here are the basics items I have returned or will return because they weren't to our liking:
Rice (have attempted to cook 3 times and goes from undercooked to overcooked and soggy in less than 30 seconds)
Rice Crispies (taste like Rice Crispies you get on the continent, nothing like at home and way too hard and crunchy)

Products I didn't return but wouldn't buy again:
    Baby wipes (not wet enough)
    Overpay Mortgage by £9,100 in 2013 - £9,316.16/£9,100
    Overpay Mortgage by £19,000 in 2014 - £438.72/£19,000

    GC 2014 Feb £120.83/£180 :j Mar £25.47/£140

Alas have never bought the ladies socks for many years as I am a size 8/9 feet and so 4-7 socks are way too small xx

Yes the nappies are superb. They seem to have less gel in than more premium nappies but also less chemicals, they don't reek of them like most other nappies these days. They also have a quilted top sheet inside which means the filling stays put relatively well. They are a bit more bulky than branded nappies but this isn't a bad thing as it means they have more space in for poo and wee to go and we very rarely get leaks. They are far superior to pampers simply dry and the tesco and Asda cheapo nappies for sure. I have even put my 10 week old in the size 4s, he is a couple of pounds under the minimum weight but they fit him well and they don't give him a rash unlike the regular Sainsbury's and Asda new baby nappies did. Baby wipes at first I found them too dry not sure if they have changed them or if I just got used to them but now I find them close to perfect and again they are less chemical ridden than the Sainsbury's own brand wipes. I used the Asda equivalent a couple of times and they are often too wet I would sometimes have to squeeze the excess liquid out of the last few before using them. Xx
