Maldives Honeymoon July 2014

Hi
This is my first ever post so please be kind!
I'd love to go to the Maldives on our honeymoon in July next year but need some advice. Ideally we would like an overwater bungalow (I know not very money saving!). But when is the best time to book and where will I get the cheapest holiday?
Also has anyone any experiences or tips for me when planning it?
Thanks in advance everyone!

I have no specific info for you but are you aware that July is in the middle of the rainy season in the Maldives?0

Yeah we did know that, as far as we had heard it isnt too bad though.
But considering we are from Scotland were its monsoon season constantly, hopefully we can cope lol.0 -
My parents were terrified in the water bungalows. We went in the rainy season and apparently it rocked something dreadful, very noisy too. I don't know whether it was just because their bungalow was loose!!! It was quite difficult to swim/snorkel off the steps of the water bungalow too as there was very spiky dead coral everywhere, some coming up almost through the water, but again this could've just been the resort we stayed at.0

aileth where did they stay? Thats what I was worried about, it being quite noisey because the water and if it was raining.0

I would certainly wait until September for Maldives. Rain, rain, rain. Or alternatively go for the med in an exclusive part of Italy for example.0

Not sure why you would wait until September....that's also slap bang in the middle of the 'rainy' season?
Hi OP,
I've been three times, one in April (high season), once in May (change over between dry and wet season) and once in June/July (wet season). By and large, weather is at the hands of the gods and you have to take other peoples experiences with a pinch of salt. What happened in previous years is no indicator of what happens in future years. The best advice I can offer is to go for as long as possible, that way you have better odds of having some picture perfect sunshine. You do have to expect some rain and some over cast skies though, that's far for the course in rainy season but it's always hot.
Visibility can be mixed if you are planning to dive/snorkel but it has to be REALLY rough before I won't get in the water so not a big deal for me.
The up side to this is that you get a lot more for your money in the off season, I've only stayed in a water villa in high season and it was great, I have heard of others saying WVs sway in rough seas but others say they don't and it's all in the mind - who knows?! :rotfl:
There isn't really a best time to book, Maldives are always expensive, expect lots of exclusions from all inclusive plans, to pay 18% service charge/tax on anything outside of your booked plan and extortionate on island shop prices (think sun cream etc). It would be impossible for me to even suggest an island without knowing more about what you want and how much you are looking to spend. This thread will help you come up with more criteria:

Things like flying non direct save money, you could also split your stay between a beach and water villa (we did that) and never assume all inclusive is the cheapest. If you like a Kuoni holiday then try one of their agents like Tropical Warehouse, Travel lab etc, they will always undercut Kuoni even though it's a Kuoni holiday. Travel bag are also well priced.
Very happily married on 10th April 2013

We went 15-30th September last year to the Maldives, Kuramathi Resort in the North Ari Atoll, 15 min by seaplane from Male.
In the entire fortnight, it rained three times - once for a full afternoon, and twice at night.
It did not impact our holiday in any way at all!
Their idea of 'rainy season' is very different to our idea......I am employed as a manager in a financial services institution. My views are entirely my own.0
