TV Licence - Student Refund

Can someone confirm this.
I bought a TV licence on 28th September 2006 which expires on 32 August 2007.
If I don't need it after 8th June is there a unused quarter. I won't need a licence again as I'm going home and as I'm a final year I won't be getting a new one.
Is a refund due?
Is it actually possible for students to get the refund for the unused quarter?

I've seen that. I suppose with finishing in June I should have bought the licence in August 2006 rather then September?0

What we always do is pay by dd, then you can cancel as/when you need it - works out quite well as it normally takes a few months to pull our fingers out and get it sorted and can cancel after 2 quarters normally.0

I'm guessing you mean 31st August

TV Licensing only refund wholly unused quarters and so you'd have had to surrender the licence by 31st May to get a refund. If you're sending the licence back after the date you no longer need it then you also have to provide some evidence that you moved out by that date.
I've always posted the TV licence off 1-2 weeks before moving out of the student accommodation saying I will no longer require this licence after x date and that saves providing evidence.
The were also pretty quick issuing the refund cheque this year, recall it took weeks and weeks last time!
On a side note, I think the way they date TV licences is a little unfair, they always expire on the end of a month, ours was bought on 16th September but expired 31st August so we only got 11.5 months for the 12 month fee.
Regarding Direct Debit, I did this last year and they charge double payments for the first 6 months to cover your first licence, then start charging you for your next licence, so by the time you get it, you've already paid half of it, this would probably prevent do you doing as Blacksheep suggested - but I'm no expert

I can't comment on how quickly or what amount of refund they give, but I called them up the other day, gave them my licence no, and told them that I would be moving out of my hall for the summer and if I could get a refund- they said yes instantly, and said they'd put it through- no proof needed... (again not sure if this is actually going to go through as they said- but it was v.easy!)0

I asked for a refund one year because I wasn't at uni for the last quarter. I got a cheque in the post, it weren't a lot but I guess it was better than nothing, I think I had to fill in a form to say that I wasn't there any more.0
