Remodelling disabled shower

Hiya,

We are having a hard time getting our heads around how to remodel our shower - it is currently a walk in shower (standard 1200mm tray) in an alcove, which has a tiled shelf on each side - as in the shelves are joined onto the tray and go up to nearly a metre. There are currently disabled (half) bi-fold doors attached to the tiled shelves. We really want to be able to fit in a regular sliding shower door, but cannot come up with something that can be mounted on top of the shelves in order for the top of the shower doors to be mounted to them. We have thought of using clear glass blocks, but those cannot really be drilled through so we wouldn't be able to mount the doors of properly.
The landlord has given us permission to install the regular shower doors (provided the shelves stay) at our expense, which is understandable - after all, everyone is pretty baffled over who decided to put a disabled shower on a 3rd floor apartment without access to a lift :/

Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance :j
