UK Holidays for Kids

Can anyone recommend a great place for both parents and kids in the South East of England? We like walking, but the location has to be able to entertain the energy of an 11yr old and her friends. I know its late, but really need to do something!!!

Any advice you can provide is greatly appreciated....also needs to be good value too :)

Thanks
x

    You're on the wrong forum!
But I'll unreservedly recommend the Isle of Wight. I reckon it's got the lot for a UK family holiday [so long as it's warm and sunny].
  • Wrong forum, however, the only advice I can give is avoid anything Haven, we've just got back from the one in Prestatyn, never again, over priced and it seemed to be Chav central, unless you are covered from head to foot in tattoos and use the 'F' word in front of and often directed at you kids, you will not fit in. I have since learned that this is typical for Haven sites.
I hate football and do wish people wouldn't keep talking about it like it's the most important thing in the world

We stayed at Prestayn Sands too for a few nights.
Just used it for somewhere to sleep while house hunting.
Rhyl was really scary, it's even got a polo tower like Morecambe.

OMG, can't believe I forgot about the Isle of Wight! Thats going to be our hols for October I think. thanks very much PompeyPete

We just got back from Chichester, stayed over in Midhurst in a lovely cottage that used to be a stable. Brilliant views and lots of walking and running around the Downs, which meant the kids were exhausted at the end of each day.

Thanks interstellaflyer, Haven? I always get the impression that they are like those places that Hi-De-Hi used to show (I'm showing my age now).

how about the New Forrest, we stayed for a week last year. Lots to see, ponies to spot, beaches available too. We spent a day here with an 11 year old, and we all loved it, it's free but parking costs a bit, well worth it though, there is a fun trail through the forest, with play areas to find: http://www.moors-valley.co.uk/

have fun wherever you end up.

Could always stay at Chewton Glen if you are feeling a little flush, kids might hate it though.

  • We went to the Marwell Wildlife reserve in Hampshire. was a brilliant way to show the kids some dedicated conservation efforts. even have penguins you can watch swimming in the pool. highly recommend.

Drusillias park is also worth a stop if you want to take lunch somewhere spectacular

Thanks Michele-P, we ended up in Lower Mead in Midhurst right next to the Downs. It was brilliant, would recommend it to anyone, its not too far out of London (about an hour and half) which was brilliant and we didn't get the usual "Are we there yet?" questions :)

There was a link on this forum a couple of weeks ago I can't seem to find it on here now. I used it before I went away to look for places to stop over to feed the kids. Just wanted to say thanks to person that posted it as it really helped.

    Many thanks.
