I am considering purchasing some cordless headphones for the TV. I require them because my hearing is not to clever nowadays. Do cordless headphones stop the volume form the TV speakers when they are in operation? If so I don't think the wife will be to happy.
If they do stop the audio from the TV speakers is there an adapter or something that can be used to retain the audio from the TV?

I have some cordless headphones but I do not use them for my TV. They are like any other headphones in that once you plug them in they stop the sound coming from the speakers, but perhaps with some TVs there might be ways around this. I would also add that, it might just be my particular headphones, but they can sometimes pick up interference from other sources, particularly when first turned on, and can offer a slightly lower sound quality if a TV is switched on nearby (although this is an old TV). They are still worth investigating though, it is great being able to move about rather than trying to lean acrobatically to fetch something just out of reach0

Yes they will. Wireless headphones work the same way as normal headphones but without the long cable. A transmitter will plug into the TV mic port and the receiver will be on yer head.
Another option would be to split the audio from the mic port to another set of external speakers using on of these.0 -

TVs don't have 'mic ports', they have headphone sockets.
Some TVs have the capability to leave speakers on when headphones are plugged in, some don't, so it would help to know what make and model OP is using.
Another solution, if the TV has an line audio output, is to connect a standard HiFi to this. Not cordless, but quality will be good.0 -
My TV is a Panasonic and luckily I have found out that on this model the headphones do not effect the TV speakers. There is a separate headphone volume control on the TV's menu.
Just got to find a good set of wireless headphones, any recommendations?0
