Stump grinding for 10 Leylandii?

While getting close board fencing quotes, one person suggested stump removal for the 10 stumps we have along the edge of the fencing, as he thought it was a bit of a "now or never" scenario, since getting the stump grinder in would be more difficult once the fence was in (plus could damage the fence). We originally left the stumps when getting the trees removed in Febuary, as we were told it would be about £90 a stump  . To my surprise, when we got the quote through, the total for all 10 stumps was only £225 - does that sound about right or seem a bit too good to be true? I'm tempted to get a tree removal company in to quote, but don't want to waste their time and assume it would be more anyway as it's a separate job, whereas the £225 presumably includes them already being on site.

The stumps are between 300mm and 800mm in diameter.

The breakdown for £225 is £108 labour, £93 stump grinder hire and £24 delivery & disposal.

Thanks :)

    Sounds about right to me.
You're being charged for a half-days labour (3 hours so about 15 mins per stump), hire of the grinder and waste disposal. Easy job for anyone doing arboricultural work or general maintenance.

I'd expect a tree removal company to be somewhere in the same ballpark. They'll probably charge a little more on the labour front, but should already have the stump grinder.
Very much dependent on exactly where you are though as to whether this is a decent price or too cheap to be true :)
  • Thanks very much :)

In Berkshire, so generally expect things to be a bit more than average.

Do you really mean 300-800mm stumps?

    Yes that's right, why?
