Refund for a live event

Hello -

Earlier this year I attended a sporting event which I had bought 6 tickets for, all seated at a table which the venue allocated to us. I applied very early as a "first come, first served gets best table" type system.

When we got to the venue we were gutted to find that we couldn't see ANYTHING from the table we had been allocated. There was basically a huge TV Camera rig right beside the table which meant all we could see was a huge black box.

We complained on the night, nothing they could do, so we ended up just standing and hanging around other parts of the venue.

I have had an email thread with the venue, where they have admitted that the TV company basically moved the table to fit their rig in, and the day after they moved the table to a better position when they realised the problem.

However, they refuse to offer any form of refund or compensation - and the tickets themselves state that there are no refunds.

While I can understand that I can't ask for a refund if the sporting event was rubbish, surely my consumer rights allow me to request a refund when there has been a clear error at the venue (whether it is their fault, or the TV companies fault) and they have also admitted this?

Appreciate any advice!

Thanks
Fraserm

Given they've admitted the issues, I think you've got an excellent chance of getting something back.

Decide how much you want, then send a letter stating what was wrong and that you want the refund. Flatly stating 'no refunds' is an unfair contract term and is essentially meaningless.

If they refuse, send a letter before action and small claims court.

The technical term is 'seat kills'.

When you film a live event, you have to kill some of the seats because camera positions make them unsaleable.

Personally I'd be writing my letter before action and getting a refund. It's absolutely not acceptable to block the views of seats, especially premium seating.
