Adopted road or not= delay in moving

We were supposed to complete on our new home this Friday. However our solicitor has informed us that the road has not been adopted by the council. The road is 3 yrs old.
She has not got a satisfactory response from the council with regards to the Council themselves adopting the road. Although she had stated that the likelihood of us and our neighbours having responsibility for the maintenance of the road is nil, she wants to check it out.
This has been going on now for nearly 2 weeks and everyday its "no response" from the council.
Can we contact the council? and push this.

Hi Mrs ted
The council may be taking their time because they will be very cautious about what they say in writing to a solicitor.
Depending on the council, you may get more insight from an informal phone call. Make it clear that you are making a polite informal enquiry. In my experience, if you get pushy they will clam-up and just tell you to wait for the letter.
This may not actually speed up the final formal response, but you may get a better idea of what is happening, and how long you will have to wait.0
