Aygo / C1 / 107 loose gear knob

Hi,
Recently the gear knob in my Aygo has become quite easy to rotate - not really a big deal but it is occasionally distracting.
It's firmly attached to the gaiter which twists around with it, but isn't gripping the stick inside very much.
I could feel something loose inside the gaiter which I pushed back up inside the knob but it's still pretty loose.
Has anyone else had this problem? Any suggestions for a fix?
Thanks.

Happens in my vectra and also a range of different cars I drive an work from a range of manufacturers, I believe there glued on and the heat in the car as a result of the hot weather over the last few weeks softens the glue and the pop off.
