How long to move?

Options
We are in the process of moving home as second time buyers, this is where we're at below.... My question(s) are

1. How long can it take to complete?
2. What could be the delay regarding the survey on our property?

Selling - accepted an offer 6 weeks ago, buyer has no chain as renting, has paid for the valuation last week but no date has been given to us. Leasehold (999 years) 6 years old.

Buying - offer accepted 2 weeks ago, mortgage company ready to carry out valuation, seller is moving into rented accommodation. Leasehold (999 years) 15 years old.

    1. Average is 12 weeks - can be more if a flat's in the chain.

    2. Many stories on here of people being made to wait weeks for a survey. Also, they probably need to make their mortgage application who will then instruct a surveyor (valuation/survey). My survey on the house I was buying was done quickly - the valuation came back straight away, but they kept me hanging on 3 weeks for the actual survey to be sent out (and lied several times about it being done/in the post/being sent by email).

    Good luck!

If there are leases involved, and a management company which has to send out the leasehold pack, prepare yourself for extra delays. The MCos are frequently reported on here to be somewhat slow at responding to requests for the pack ...
