,my jsa con based [£41 pw] finished 22 july after 6 mths, during which i had no help for housing or council tax now just been told i will not get any jsa i/b at all so am applying again for housing/ct help informing them of this. l really cannot see why i should still sign on and pay out £10 pm which they do not reimberse . knowing i will recieve no jsa
l have a company pension of £ 340.70 pm of which im having to live on and as i live alone find it impossible

my questions are :

why do i have to still sign on if im not entitled to jsa . what happens if i dont ?

i know have paid in enough years already required for national insurance [39 yrs ] so if by not signing on they will not pay my ni contributions which as i see it, it really dont matter ?

if i dont sign on can this affect my application currently going through for housing/ct help ?

many thanks in advance ,

The only reason to sign is for NI contributions so if you don't want to for that no-one will force you.

You can still apply for Housing Benefit and Council Tax Support based on your low income.

Why didn't you receive HB and CTB while you were on contribution based ESA? Did you have savings over £6000?
  • how much in savings do you have
    less than 6k?
    between 6k and 16k?
    more than 16k?

I can't think of any benefit to you signing on. My stepfather didn't sign on when he was out of work later in life for the same reason; and my OH Marley doesn't sign on just now because he wouldn't get paid anything - his NI credits are being made up by receiving the CB.

good morning and thank you for your replies ,

i have no savings of any kind , own my mobile home and have to pay ground rent to the park owner £110 pm.

i was on esa for 3 yrs previously[ after working full time without a break for 39 yrs ]. but after failing my last atos medical and despite an appeal i had no choice but to sign on to jsa , but hopeful that l could find some part time work to feel "normal again" . i took out my private pension early when my health started to fail so i could work part time but sadly became too ill to even do that .

reason i got no help ?

while i was on esa con based and i/based i got help with ct and housing ..... when i went to jsa con based in jan this yr i informed the council of my change of circumstances, in feb they got back to me saying i was not entitled to help and because they took so long sorting it out asked for the amount they had continued to pay up till then back .

as i am now on jsa i/b i have applied again and still waiting

like many others l have been honest done the required 3 job applications pw and job searches been told to come in every wk [ £6.80 in fares  ] to have a "chat " with my "personal advisor" who is different every week !! i got one of these chat days [not a sign on one ] muddled up [part of my health issues of which they are aware] and rang in to say what id done and had my jsa stopped for 1 mth:mad: , if id have lied and said i was sick they would have still paid me .

    lesson learnt .

anyway , thanks again , i will not be going to the job center again :j and they can shove the £0 jsa pw up their bottom:p

If you believe you legitimately qualify for ESA, and it's been 6 months since the last decision by the DWP (reconsiderations or appeals do not reset this clock) that you were fit - you can reapply. Even if your condition has not changed.
You would initially be paid at the same rate as JSA.
