Screwing wood to concrete posts

Hi,
My back garden shares one border with a school. At the moment, the fence is that green plastic wire stuff held up by concrete posts. We want to put something permanent on there to give more of a barrier. I bought some bamboo screening but I’m not impressed with the screen that it gives. I was wondering about attaching some wooden crossbeams to the concrete posts and then nailing feather-edge board to it to create a better fence. Does anyone know if it is possible to attached wooden beams to concrete fence posts? I imagine I would need some special kind of rawlplug. Just not sure how easy it is to screw into the concrete.
Thanks.

who owns the concrete posts? are they happy you doing this?
normal process is to put plugs into concrete but drilling into the posts can crack them... plus if you hit the metal rebar in the posts you can cause further damage....
i wouldnt do it personally....0 -
To avoid damaging the posts, you could use some kind of clamp/bracket. That way the posts are unharmed and you can easily remove your fence if you have to.0

If the post is tapered, then a metal strap can be placed round the post and the wood attached to this without damaging the integrity of the post, but i would get authority to do this
The other option which it is quite legal for you to do is to put your own posts in on the inside of your property line and erect what you want there?Signature removed0 -
I've discussed the fencing with the school and they are happy for me to put something up.
What sort of bracket would I use to do this?

Do the posts have slots in them ?
I've had trouble in the past with a few of my fence panels blowing out in the wind. What i've done now, not used any sort of clamp but in a 6' panel i drilled 3 holes at each edge, say 9" from the top and 9" from the bottom and one in the centre. Then thread thin rope through, around the concrete post and into the next panel, So each panel is secured at 6 points to the post and it's neighbouing panel.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
What it may grow to in time, I know not what.

I'd go the screening route as that will cause no damage to the posts. See attached link - theres loads of types of screening.

Cheers, I like your thinking. Will look into doing that. I can always use my existing screening for something else.Save £6k in 2015 - Jan £5000
