hi

potential daft question,

i had wanted a kindle for a while, but i seen a tablet (cheap as chips so it might be rubbish) it has 4gb of memory (though this can be expanded via SD card)

all i intend doing is reading books on it, (maybe listen to music)does anyone know how much 4gb of memory would be in terms of books and songs

tia

I don't know about the storage issue but I think the google play store is much better than amazons on the kindle fire so take that into consideration too

books shouldn't take up much room at all, less than music.

with 4GB you should be able to store alot of books and music. but it depends how much the OS and Apps take up in that 4GB as well.

as it has an SD, then it wont be a problem expanding that, so you should have plenty of space

I think there is confusion between en e-book like the classic Kindle and Tablets (which to confuse the issue some version of Kindles are now)

    A classic kindle e-book reader is £69.

Yes you can read books on a cheap tablet and 4GB is enough space for literally thousands of books... but cheap tablets have small batteries and have to power the screen all the time so may only last a couple of hours use.

A classic kindle (or other e-readers) don't light up and only need power to change the screen page. A single charge can last months and give dozens of hours use. They are lighter and easier to use.

If your main use is really reading I would get a classic kindle, its designed for the job, is easy to use, gets content from Amazon (plenty of free stuff) very simply and Amazon are really good if there is a problem.

Also worth looking for the thread on the Nook. Does pretty much what a Kindle does but is being sold all over for £29.

Works with Barnes and Noble bookstore instead of Amazon.

My ds has a nook, I have a kindle and we have a family ipad. We read on our readers through choice, they ar easier to carry, batteries last longer and whilst the page doesn't scroll like it does on an ipad, the (classic) kindle is a button and the nook is a touchscreen.

If you may use it for anything else, grab a tablet, otherwise I would highly recommend a reader!!

I would recommend following the advice of SillyGoose as this seems to be the clearest and best information for you
  • I've finished 3 books on my Nook. I've not charged it for ages. If you want to read, get a e-reader.. it's a completely different experience to an ipad or tablet. It's so much easier on the eyes.
