Notice of Intended Prosecution and Insurance

I received a notice of intended prosecution dated 18/7/2013 for speeding at 36 mph in 30mph zone. I have returned the form duly completed. I expect the police force to allow me to attend a driving course instead taking a fixed penalty and points (this is a first offence in 26 years of motoring).
My insurance is due for renewal on 21/8/2013. When looking to renew the insurance company requires me to notify "pending convictions". I do not regard receipt of notice of intended prosecution as a pending conviction (if for no other reason than that I could theoretically challenge the prosecution in court and be found not guilty). Is this correct? Would I be better to wait until around the 20/8/2013 to see what action the police are taking before renewing the insurance?
There is also the quesiton of notifying the insurance company in due course if I am offered and take a driving course. It appears different insurance companies have different policies reqardging this. This seems highly unstatisfactory so how do I know where I stand?
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Has the FPN charge been increased ? I thought it was still £60 and three points and you only received a court summons for 50 and over when in a 30 mph zone. Some areas don't offer the choice of the driving course, keep your fingers crossed.0
