ceramic v. dual fuel (lpg)

What I don't seem to be able to get answered is what are the benefits of an induction hob over ceramic. Its a fair bit more money so need to be sure. Last time was easy - dual fuel as we had gas.
Still can't picture a layout that would allow a seperate hob / oven layout. Plus OH fancies a range again. It was the excel last time, struggling with which one this time - excel v. kitchener v. toledo.0 -
Induction is more expensive, but about twice as fast as ceramic and about 40% more efficient so the initial outlay will pay for itself.
Its safer because it doesnt get as hot as ceramic and easier to clean. Its also as controlable as gas.
You should be able to pick up Siemens single ovens from as little as £450 each and a hob for £550 so you are looking at about £1500 for the lot leaving you no worse off. The ovens will have the same features as your range.
For a bit more money you can get a pyrolitic oven and eliminate oven cleaning from your life. We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
If the choice is induction versus ceramic, take my word you want induction. Induction over gas might be a little closer but for a flatter, neater, easier to keep clean hob then the induction would be my choice, if I was a manic cook then gas might just sneak in.
In theory if you lay a block of ice on your induction hob and then your pan on the ice the pan will boil without the ice melting (except the pan obviously gets hot) but there is no heat from the hob the only heat is back from the pan. You can switch the hob on and leave your hand on it and it will never get hot. If you have a pacemaker it can get interesting though.0
