Just had an email from DPS saying a deposit has been registered in my name and including a repayment ID and a deposit ID.

Silly question number 1: considering that there is a belief in this forum that email is not considered an appropriate method of communicating important documents, is this the prescribed information?

I have seen DPS forms online but haven't filled any out as I was instructed by the LA to simply send the deposit directly to their account with DPS, where they have since allocated the deposit to my flat.

Silly question number 2: the email from DPS gives the start and end date of the tenancy (6 months). Am I correct to assume that the deposit remains as it is if the tenancy becomes a rolling contract, and that the deposit isn't returned and a new one required?

Edit: possibly just found the answer to silly question number 2 here: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4656357, though that seems to leave room for interpretation.

no. The PI comes fromthe landlord and is more extensive. See prescribed information

As above, the email is just confirmation from DPS that the deposit is with them and confirms your unique ID number which the LL does not have access to. You will need this to claim back your deposit at the end so don't lose it.

The onus under the Deposit regs is for the LL/agent to supply you with the full PI and T&Cs from the DPS, usually by post/hard copy and you should receive this within 30 days of deposit payment. If you do not, they are in breach of the regs.
