Error in work contract, already signed - Where do I stand?

I work for a company on which I was on a temp contract, the company has now been purchased by a larger company and I have been offered a permanent contract. The contract was sent to my address, stating my salary would be £17,627.59, with my job-title as "Sales Advisor"...
It has been signed and sent back to them already.
We have now been informed there has been a mistake and we are actually only supposed to be getting in the region of £12,XXX....
They said that the contract was sent for a different department which have a different salary, however my argument is that the job role in the contract still says "Sales advisor".....
Where do I stand, surely they cannot do this?
And what's worse is we only found out we were getting paid less because our first motnhs paycheck was very low in comparison to what we expected.
Any advice/help?
Thanks

Did you not agree a wage before you got the contract? Seems strange to me to go for a job without any idea what wage you'd be getting untill you'd already got the job and been given something to sign.
(Sorry if this sounds short just don't know how else to word it. Not being akward)

Nothing you can do. You can leave and get a JSA sanction.0

I had a wage before the contract, but it went from weekly to monthly pay. But no we had no agreed to anything for the permanent role until the contract, which is when I was offered 17,XXX,XX. I then signed the contract, which means I'm accepting their offered.
Surely after I have signed it the contract is then cemented? How can they suddenly now so I'm going to be getting nearly £5,000 less?Save in 2016 challenge!!!

Not sure this is right. You could sue for breach of contract or perhaps go to tribunal for unlawful deductions.
Problem is you can only claim for the money they already should have paid as they will probably just sack you if you make a fuss over it.0 -
What is your current salary?
It's £7.21 an hour.
Offered a perm role in same job, by the company that took-over and have offered me 17,XXX,XX... I accepted, they sent me the contract, I signed it. Bish bash bosh?
How cna they then turn around and say were changing it?Save in 2016 challenge!!!

Because you have been there such a short time your options are limited. 1) Accept the lower salary. 2) Argue your case for the higher salary (or a compromise amount) and win. 3) Argue your case and get sacked. 4) Find another job and leave. 5) Leave without finding another job, but you probably will face a JSA sanction.0

How much were you on before this contract?
As I see it, they do probably owe you the higher amount up until they informed you they had made a mistake, but this is a difficult area. You might as well ask the Wizard of Oz to give you a big number as pay a Credit Referencing Agency for a so-called 'credit-score'0 -
OP lets get this right the contact you dinged says £17,627.59?
You are now told its wrong and its only going to be £12k ???We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
