Tax Credits dispute?

can anyone please help? i just called to renew my tax credits and whilst on the phone verifying details the lady realised that 2 changes i called to report back in april had been logged but not processed (my son ended college and i stopped claiming working tax) i received a change of payment and didnt realise it hadnt been processed. She has told me she has made a note on the system that i called and it hasnt been processed and has advised me to file a dispute when i receive my new award. But since im now only claiming for 1 child this overpayment will take away most of my new award. She said its their fault but what do i do? how does disputes work and will they just stop my money till its repaid?? im worried as i only get JSA and child tax

And because they will have sent out a new award letter, and it's the claimant's responsibility to check the details on it and notify them of any error. This makes claimants jointly responsible for this kind of error, making overpayments recoverable.0 -

To dispute you basically fill a form out to say why you dont agree with the overpayment. They'll suspend any recovery of the overpayment whilst they look at it.

Recovery action is no longer suspended whilst an o/p is in dispute. It has just recently changed though.0 -

But aren't claimants supposed to notify if they don't receive a new award letter, again meaning joint liability and making any overpayment recoverable?0
