Vegas Flight Question

Hi all, new to the forum so hoping this is in the right place.
I have just been playing about on Expedia, loking at flight options to Las Vegas. Something I do all the time to find the best time to go!
So, in order to get a comparison, I take the same dates (in this case 17th-24th February 2014) and change the variables like direct/in-direct/1 stop/2 stop.
This time I decided to change the departure location and ended up with the following result.
London Gatwick - Las Vegas (Direct, flight Virgin Atlantic VS43) = £633
Dublin - Gatwick (Aer Lingus), Gatwick - Las Vegas (Virgin Atlantic VS43) = £533.
So an extra flight, and the main leg of the journey is exactly the same but £100 less. How is that possible?!?
Would it be possible to book the 2 flights but check in at Gatwick for just the 2nd leg?
Any help on this would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Lee

There have been discussions about this in the Las Vegas thread at the top of the page - few people have done it.
You need to take all the connections of the flight, otherwise the next leg will be cancelled - but it can still work out cheaper even taking into account getting to Dublin.0 -
You'd need to start at Dublin & therefore pay to get to Dublin.0
