£50 Penalty for changing SAGA car insurance
Options
Having received a renewal notice from SAGA insurance for my car I decided to try the comparison web sites to see if I could find a cheaper deal. I informed SAGA by phone that I could find one and was cancelling the current one with them. Much to my surprise I was told that a £50 charge (penalty?) was to applied to my Direct Debit for not renewing my insurance with them. I told them at the time the I considered this to be day light robbery and no way could such a penalty be justified as all it would take to cancel my insurance with them was a key press on a keyboard. I hope anyone considering taking out insurance with SAGA realises that this penalty will apply to them should they decide to change to another insurer.

Did you cancel before or after the renewal date?0

There should be no charge for not renewing with SAGA but you must inform them before the renewal date otherwise they will auto-renew and it is then that the cancellation charge will apply. Auto-renew is a big con imho but much debated on this site; a few people like it but most do not.0
