MOT Failed Help

Hi All,

I need some advice with a problem I have with Halfords. The story goes a bit like this:

I booked my car in for MOT on Saturday the same day as the current MOT certificate expired. After booking the car in I got call from the garage telling me the MOT tester would only be working half the day on Saturday as he had a family emergency.

I had a good idea my car would fail as the windscreen washer were not working so I asked when it failed how soon could I get the car back I was assured the repairs could be done and I would only have to pop the car back Monday for five min so they can issue a new cert.

Anyway I got the call telling me my MOT failed it needed new motor for the washer and two new tyers. They quoted me £74 per tyer and I was told they were the cheapest they sold. I agreed to the work since I could not drive my car anywhere else to get the job done a lot cheaper.

I then got another call saying my car was ready for collection. I got the garage paid the bill and left before checking it was ok to pop back Monday around 4.30 to get the cert done.

While driving home I noticed a mark on my windscreen at first I thought it was just like a smug mark so tried to clean it but the mark didn't go away. I finally got home and inspected the mark more to noticed my windscreen had a crack in it. I called the garage stright away but they already had left so I sent email to Customer Service.

Anyway since there was little I could do I waited to Monday when I was meant to take the car back and get the certificate so left work early that day. I called the garage before I left only to be told the MOT guy had already left and they could not do the retest today. I also explain to the guy they cracked my windscreen and their was missing covers on my windscreen wipers. He kinder just said yeah I was not in nothing to do with me call back tomorrow.

At this point in time I was not impressed so I went home and called Customer Service and complained about the level of service or lack of server I had been given. I was told a senior manager would be in touch in next few days.

However here is my problem:
I don't have valid MOT so I cant drive my car. If I take my car to the Garage I am sure they will fail it because the windscreen has a crack in it. (Which was caused by them) If I dont get my car retested with x amount of days I have to pay for the MOT again. So I really dont know if I best to wiat for customer service to deal with it all or go to the garage and shout moan and scream at them to get it sorted.

Any help or advice would be really appreciated.
Thanks in advance for reading the long SA

Where abouts in the windscreen is the chip, and how big is it? The presence of it does not necessarily mean an automatic fail. If the garage don't take responsibility for the chip, have you got any evidence to prove it was them?

You imply that it's a chain of garages... does it start with an H by chance?

Its not a chip it a crack that is about 15cm long. I don't really have any evidence part from the failed MOT has no mention of a crack so it was not their when the car was dropped off. Also the location of the windscreen water bottle is located right where the crack is.

It does start with H wish I never took it to them but I am new to the area and needed it sorted asap
