I have no idea as I don't apply on the UJM

    Maybe Nightranger can tell us

I was under the impression the CV became part of your profile so I was guessing the employer logs in to see the CV but if you have over ridden it they see a cover letter for a different job, maybe?

    Lets ask the JC LOL

lol maybe so. I've wondered that for a few different sites that seem to work in the same way with CVs, although at least most do allow a cover letter.

All of the ones I use allow a cover letter and some even let you have more than one and once signed in you can adjust the letter you send and they get it as an attachment

You would think that since Monster set the site up they would do it in the dame way they do their own site but the 'customer' gets a big say in what they want and the programme writers do what they tell them

:) I didn't say UJM was perfect though, again I think it is about knowing how the functionality works but it is easy enough to misunderstand some parts of it. I think we are all dancing around the uncomfortable truth that if JC staff are making subjective judgements about UJM activity then they are almost certainly encouraging people to lie.As far as I can see, using UJM extensively is a good resource (OK, now I will add the caveat :)) if you want a permanent record of your activity and I am sure I can make this work for me(eventually) in overturning my sanction. Fantastic if you and AP007 worked it all out immediately but I think the gist of this thread proves the site is far from intuitive - as also confirmed by what I have overheard at times - and I certainly admit that I did not work some bits of it out until I asked for clarification.

It doesn't work though, that's the point. It's not about misunderstanding parts, they just really don't do a thing or they don't work right.

It's really not a good resource. If I want a record of my activity I'll do a spreadsheet and save it to my PC.

In theory an employer can login and see your profile although I am not sure any do in reality. If the JC think this is a main aim of UJM then they are sadly mistaken, no employer has to chase applicants in the current climate. I think we may be getting closer to why we are speaking at cross-purposes here too. I assumed UJM was there to be user-friendly and I would perhaps argue that it is but only if you are not led into making certain assumptions. AP007, I assume something about UJM does not work for you and I respect what you are saying but the website is blind and is just a record plus a search facility. It is also an objective record of what you do, should you choose to use it yet the JC assessment of your activity on UJM is subjective so we have a problem.

Yeah, but I often wonder if the letter I've changed/added is the one they're getting.

True, but I don't like the Monster site either. I have similar problems with it. For a start, lack of jobs showing on there, jobs that are posted elsewhere and jobs that just don't appear for me.

My friend searched administration and an area and got a few jobs. Now I always search admin as it covers administration, admin and administrator, but no matter what I searched on there I could not find the same jobs she had. Useless site, but it does work a little better than the UJM.

User-friendly...I actually laughed at that. Never has the website for the JC been user friendly. For years I've wanted to redesign their website, still do :(

It's pretending to be a search facility and it's bad at it.

Fair enough that it keeps a record, but that's what spreadsheets are there for and it's far easier to record activities on them.

Fair enough, that is your choice and if the JC accept this then I see no problem. To be honest guys, I am getting a little frustrated at having to explain minutiae and repeating points that I made further back on the thread. This thread was not set up with the intention of having a prolonged debate about its finer points. I am even biting my tongue about some of the thinly disguised needles and we are getting to a point where respect is being stretched. I have been around Internet forums long enough to know this is normal behaviour and even quite mild compared to some sites but it does not make it any less frustrating to deal with. I decided to post because I have read other threads where this subject did not fit and because I know other people visiting my JC office are suffering worse problems than me. If we are all so hung up on minute points of order and personal opinions then I clearly came to the wrong place.

something doesn't work for me? It don't work full stop!!!

Like I keep saying THRID PARTY JOBS are not adverts placed on the UJM by employers

Jobs that are 100 miles away and not 20 are not 20 miles away

No where to add a cover letter is totally unprofessional!

    Shall I carry on?

Oh yes no large corporation in London who has an HR team or a large recruitment budget will advertise on there and never have

You can tell the type of companies that advertise on there by the replies you get

I got one once that was jut two words in capitals on the day I applied and the same day as the job when live saying JOB GONE

I replied and thanked them for their professional reply

We're just giving our opinion and it is related to the first post. You can't expect to start a thread about a topic like this and not have a bit of a debate.

Anyhow think of it this way, more posts means your warning gets bumped to the top of the forums and that means more people see it.

Few will bother to read more than the first post or two. So you get your warning across to others which is what you wanted.

...and a completely sham one that did the rounds on Facebook recently. :)

Guys, just a small point of order - I did not make the original post to set up a debate about UJM specifically and please be aware that we are slightly drifting away from what I intended. Fair enough if I have been misunderstood and I do appreciate the feedback :T but whilst I am seething at the circumstances of my sanction, my reason for posting was because of the conversations I have overheard in my local JC. I made some basic assumptions about UJM match but I did genuinely apply for the jobs I claimed so compliance should have been easy to prove...particularly through UJM even though it is not the be-all-and-end-all in this context...but other people have almost certainly been in a worse situation than I have been and be honest, sanctions are not easy to overturn. :(
And you've learnt the lesson the hard way.

You've given them access to your account and they've used it against you.

But you should be able to appeal & win when you demonstrate your additional job search activity for that period.
