samsung galaxy s4 sd card unexpectedly removed

That is the message that appeared on my phone yesterday from out of nowhere
So I took out the card and reinserted it and now it is not even acknowledged as having an sd card in the phone at all

So I removed again and put it into a micro sd adapter and then inserted into my PC and is not even acknowledging any existence of being an sd card at all on there either, it wont even appear as a drive

I have loads of photos on it and am now very worried that somehow the disc is corrupt / broken.

Does anyone know what has happened? can the photos be retrieved or have I lost everything?

Try Recuva for the photos .

Did you use the correct procedure i.e.

Applications / Settings / Storage / Unmount SD Card

Try JJEgan´s tip about using Recuva the FREE version. On the Filehippo download page - look at the RH side and click "Download latest Version"

It sounds like the card has failed completely which the phone has initially registered with the error about it being unexpectedly removed. It's worth checking file recovery tools but I've not had any luck getting the card to mount at all to even begin file recovery.
