Virgin router- computer problems.

Hi, I have recently installed a Virgin router/modem. Since installation, our computer has started turning itself off when out of use (not shutting down/standby) It has also become very noisy as if it's working really hard. Any ideas?
Also, If I remove the router/modem will my old modem work? It wasn't used for a Virgin connection and I don't really need wireless. Sorry if I sound a bit thick.:o

Your router should work as long as you can get into the settings and put your details into it. How did you install the VM router? Was it software installation too and have you tried a system restore (if available) to see if something got upset when you did the installation?
What operating system are you running?0 -
A router is safer than a modem, turn the wireless function off if you don't need it. Did you encrypt the wireless signal?
A router takes some load off the PC, so it should be using less resources rather than more.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
Thanks for the replies, haven't been able to get on here until now.
I XP proffesional, how do I turn off the wireless function?
I was going to try system restore but I was concerned it would uninstall the modem? I'm not sure about the software, I can't see it on add/remove programmes?
