Hi all,
I was looking for a simple photo editing programme for my Mac.
The only two "technical" features I want to be able to do are
1) is to cut out objects from a picture and place them on a blank background
2) maybe create an image with a specific light source like this:http://crit365.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/oli-old-shot.png
However, the second one is not essential.
I know photoshop has this feature, but I want a lightweight programme as I'll never use any of photoshop's more complex features.
Any assistance would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Have you tried Gimp ?
It's very well-featured and it's free.
Otherwise, there's Apple's own iPhoto and Aperture software, which can do a lot.
Then, there's Adobe's Photoshop Elements, which is a cut down version of Photoshop. Often available on cheap deals at Amazon.
Which of these can do specifically what you want for your second task is something you'd have to check.Nothing in all the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance

Most if not all editing suites are compatible with macs - which one you go for really depends on what you want to use it for.
There are also a lot of video tutorials online for the major software such as these here that will give you some idea of what they are capable of.
Personally I like photoshop elements 11, but I also use something called the Nik Collection both of which are mac compatible.I am responsible me, myself and I alone I am not the keeper others thoughts and words.0
