Claim membership fee back

Hi,
So I recently looked at my bank statement and noticed a monthly membership fee of £10.95 to Lumosity (makers of Brain Training) which I have never used, had come out of my account.
After doing some more research, I found I've unknowingly been a member for THREE YEARS!! This totals almost £400 in fees to Lumosity. It must be a trial membership that has become a full membership and repeated payments each month. It must have happened so long ago, I'm just guessing here.
I've contacted them explaining it's clearly an error and there was never any activity on my account, and I haven't even used their product. During my membership they didn't send me any emails or anything, so there was never any reminder of my membership.
Had I not spotted it on my statement, they'd still be quietly taking money out my account.
They said they don't refund monthly memberships...
Any advice, please?!!
Thanks in advance!

Is it a direct debit or a continuous payment authority?0

Well first thing to do is to cancel with Lumosity (if you haven't already) and get that DD cancelled with your bank (easy to do with online banking).
But I think you may struggle to recover previous payments.0 -
Actually, trying to cancel DD on online banking now, it isn't there. So perhaps it wasn't a DD.
Yeah, I cancelled my membership with Lumosity.
Thanks for your help0 -
Which indicates it may be a CPA, which indicates a card payment originally. (Or card details were provided for the trial).
Contact your bank to cancel the CPA. You may get an ignoramus at first (someone who is unaware of your legal rights and tries to fob you off) but keep trying, as it is THE LAW (IIRC) that you can cancel CPAs via your bank ... any payments debited after the bank is notified the bank MUST refund to you.
