Edges of TV picture missing

I have a virgin plus box and a 32" TV. the edges of my TV picture are missing......I don't mean the black edging referred to in other threads, but for example when watching F1 I can see the timings on the left hand side of the picture, but not the names to the left of the timings. I have tried all the different 'shapes' of TV picture (4:3, widescreen, 16:9 and so on), but none of them solve this problem. Does anyone know what I am doing wrong please? A friend suggestd that using HDMI cable instead of Scart maybe would help. Don't have an HDMI cable, but if it would help will get one.
Thanks in advance

Are you changing the shape of the tv screen on the tv or on the virgin box? You can do both and both would need to be set correctly.

I seem to recall there is a "letterbox" setting on the virgin box for the picture, have a go at that one. Other than that you could just keep playing.

HDMI would be a good thing to do - you can get them for a couple of quid

(If your Virgin box has HDMI and you have a HD TV - you should be able to get HD channels - in HD)

TV, and Virgin box, should be set to 16:9, full, just scan, pixel by pixel and similar settings, depending on equipment. Your TV may have 'overscan' settings burried within the settings menu too, which you should switch OFF.
