No proof of address might ruin everything!

Hi all,
My boyfriend and I are (were) on the cusp of buying our first home, but are waiting on a formal mortgage offer from The Leeds. They have taken ages in putting this through (we're about 7 weeks in and engaged them through our broker within days of the offer going through), and keep requesting more and more documents. They now want proof of address from my boyfriend from a flat he lived in 2 years ago- but the problem is he doesn't have it. This address should never have been put on the application in the first place as although he did live there he has never changed any of his details (banking, electoral roll, etc) from his home address- I must have mentioned it to our broker, not being clear enough. He has a tenancy agreement, but I have a feeling this won't be accepted.
So, I guess my question is: is this slowness usual? Are there any quicker mortgage providers out there? I don't think the sellers will have much more patience left, but we might be able to keep their interest if we move super-quickly!

what makes you think that a tenancy agreement won't be accepted

I would say a tenancy agreement would be perfect. If he did in fact live there, then the address should be on the application.0 -
And Leeds are painfully slow at the moDebt free as of 7.20am on 31st December 2012.

If your worried about the fact bills and bank statements wernt sent to that address ...it was 2 years ago. A person at bank would understand that he has not held onto something and a tenancy agreement should hold.
Just say he didnt keep hold of any of the bills if they ask for more and hope for best.People don't know what they want until you show them.0 -
If your broker obtains all the necessary documentation from you in advance, using the Leeds submission requirements;-

and submits it to Leeds at the point of application, cases are normally turned around reasonably quickly.
My last Leeds case took them seven days to even look at it, but it was offered only two weeks from the point of submission, so only seven days to actually process the case, instruct and have the valuation back.
As a broker, if you allow the "death by a thousand cuts" of continual requests you could have anticipated at the outset, you have no-one to blame but yourself. Your broker did the right thing. If you are asked for previous addresses this needs to be where you lived...not where your bank etc is registered. To ignore an address because you have no proofs is not being honest on the application and could slip you up further down the line.0

He (ridiculously or not) never changed any of his details from home because I thought it would make stuff like this easier(!)- but I hardly think this should bar him from ever getting a mortgage!

If he has a tenancy agreement I am sure this will be fine. And I am guessing also paid council tax so might be able to use this also if you still have it.
If not I am sure plenty of people dont have anything going back 2 years.0 -
I feel your pain-we're having a similar faff finding proof of address for our current place because everything we pay, we pay online.
I would say try the tenancy agreement. I had a CRB check done about a year ago where the only proof of address I had was a tenancy agreement and that was fine.0 -

It looks like this was a moot point anyway, the vendors have apparently pulled out. The EA didn't know anything about it, they faxed our solicitor this morning.
3 weeks left in our flat, good...0
