Can I hijack the thread, I've also got a plastic bath and in certain places it looks like newspaper print (it's not but it's the nearest thing I can think of to describe it ). I have no idea what causes it and have tried lots of different things to clean it.

Have you tried cif cream? On a (plastic) bath you need to be really careful. You need a damp cloth and start with a DROP of cif cream and rub gently. If the bath is plastic 'some' stains will sink in, eg engine oil, as they are similar in origin.

And never ever use nail polish remover on plastics. Take it from an ex lab tech. For plastics use WD40 BUT apply to a dry cloth (I usually use a cotton wool pad) - DS just needed to remove a sticky label residue form a bike frame and was bowled over... WDE40 shifts the sticky sutff then 'goes' (Word of warning - it is flammable). It is ALWAYS wise to test a solvent in an inconspicuous area.

Oil would work fine - but would take longer and you could then be left with an oil sheen. WD40 is, in effect, petrol,
