Shocking news re my ESA application

I was previously on ESA in the Work Related Activity Group. Several weeks ago I received the dreaded ESA50 form as my claim was being reviewed.

I sent off the form. 4 weeks later - today - I received a letter from them informing me they are moving me from the Work Related Activity Group to the Support Group for 4 years. No medical required.

I'm so shocked and so relieved.

    Well done!!!:T

I thought however that 3 years was the maximum you could be in the SG for before reassessment was carried out.

My letter gives the dates from the date of the letter through to May 2016. But when I rang the DWP to confirm the news the guy there claimed they've put me on it for 4 years.

We never received a letter telling us when the claim would expire for my son.

Does everyone usually get a letter?

    Thanks

My friend never received a letter stating any dates last October when he won his appeal for ESA. His daughter called to enquire and she was told it could be anytime between 3 months and 3 years. He received his next ESA50 last week. So it all starts again, his stress levels are through the roof.
Why pay full price when you may get it YS ;)

I thought it was a max of 3 years.

I have just been placed in Support group and when I asked during phone call to inform me, was told the maximum is 3 years.
My forms do not stipulate any date other than the Christmas bonus one.

I am in the support group. I was told by phone that the maximum time before reassessment is 3 years. My award letter did not state any expiry or reassessment date.
I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.

To May 2016 from approx this month. is ~3 years.
  • On my letter it says:

"The amounts on this page apply from XX July 2013 to XX May 2016."

Then I rang them up to clarify. The guy on the phone said "They've put you in the Support group for 4 years."

It is possible I misheard him or that he calculated it wrong. But it definitely sounds like I've been put on it for a specific period of time.
  • Also as I think I stated before I was previously in the WRAG group. Following a medical they did not actually re-assess me again for 3 and a half years (which is when I received this recent ESA50). So it looks like they can and do leave you for more than 3 years without being assessed again.

Also the whole time I was in the WRAG I wasn't called to attend any work-related interviews at all, not even one.

Them putting me in the Support group now was entirely their initiative. I did not request it.
