I am pleased you took this course. If they had showed up and were criminal types, they would have probably been very aggressive and tried to browbeat you into a deal. Well done for asking advice and taking it.Je suis sabot...0

Isn't this just a variation on the "We have a buyer for your car but you need to register with us and pay a fee before we can send them to view" rigmarole?0

Interesting that 'Car Finance 247' are based in Manchester and it was a Manchester landline you were contacted on.
I agree with the posters above though, and think you've done the right thing. Would just be interesting to know if it is someone impersonating them or a legitimate business acting in a pretty unprofessional manner.0 -

+1. That's what I took this to be at the start of the thread.0 -
People scamming run more than one scam at a time. they are at it full time. It's not unusual for them to get confused between the stories they are using, call you by the wrong name, confuse the previous contact they've had etc.
So, they were a reputable finance company looking to buy a car.
They've turned into a company who sell a finance agreement before they even see or have a deposit on the car they're financing, don't know who they've actually spoken to, and call those they do business with a "!!!!!!".
They cannot take out or arrange finance on a car they do not own. Don't worry about that. It's just idle threats to make you feel bad.0 -

I've noted all the numbers, names & details & contacted the police fraud department. I was angry that someone tried to target me. It concerns me more than anything that those in vulnerable situations who perhaps need the cash desperately may fall for this scam. Thanks for all your help, really appreciate it0 -

More than likely, this scam happens all the time0 -
Wow , and it all sounded quite straightforward in the beginning!0

BACS transfer is in your bank
if the BACS is the subject of fraudulent activity it will be reversed0 -
They send it Via an international money order in to a account here and onward to your account.
The international money order gets cancelled and the bank snatches the lot back as it is outside UK rules.
The profits for the scam is what you refunded them as the initial deposit vanishes .
They target hundreds a day, it must work as they keep doing it.Be happy...;)0
