Again absolutely right that's why I'd never do it. But shows that honesty does not always pay!! I paid into the system for 35 years never been unemployed until 2005 when I had to give up work due to a back injury and became unfit for work but under the new ESA rules am classed as fit for work as I can walk 200 meters, move a empty box sit for 15 mins (see I was too honest) I can't bend, lift, use painkillers, back supports etc.

Second time of asking :) - did you appeal?

You can claim JSA and get your NI credits even if you are not entitled to any money.

Ask to see a Disability Advisor at the Job Centre.

Are there any jobs that you could reasonably do? Anything that you can do as self employed?

    Partners support each other shock!

Don't be stupid, thats how it used to be in Grannies' day. These days partners are just a hindrance to being able to claim maximum benefits. Have you not seen the many "What do I lose if we move in together" and "Are we better off living apart" type questions and threads?.

Love, Settling down, Marriage, Raising a Family etc, are all 'yesterdays' priorities........

Thanks the appeal is going though I have asked for oral hearing (don't know how long it takes)
I am not as bad off as many but perhaps my main point has got lost !!!
I went on IB in 2005 went for regular assessments got the required points benefit not means tested no problem. New ESA comes in I am reassessed result 0 points despite everything I told them being the same as other assessments. So I am expected to go on to JSA which is means tested result £0. So in effect the government has removed me from the disability register and saved some money and will claim, look at all those not claiming what a wonderful job we are doing . when all they are doing is driving more and more in to poverty
I have tried to get part time work but because i cannot sit in a chair for very long cannot bend pick things up from the floor and other simple thing have had no luck . I am lucky I not as disabled as many other I can still walk short distances, can carry out simple light tasks around the house (just not fit enough to work!!!) hence not getting ESA
Still life will go on and I will always be honest!!!!

The appeal will be many months ahead, certainly next year so you will have to be patient. Make sure you send in your fit-notes though!

As it's unlikely that you would get into the support group then you will only get WRAG ESA for one year anyway before it would be income based and you are in exactly the same position again.

I don't like the situation either and have been through it myself and there is now no income but we are relying on savings.

I can understand this possibly a difficult situation if you'd just moved in with your partner on the basis of each being financially dependent from each other, but after 22 years??? Surely you have reached a level of commitment that means that married or not, you accept that you would support each other if in need? It is quite sad to think that some long-term relationships are still very much about what individuals get out of it rather than what they are prepared to do for the other.

I think some people misunderstand the meaning of the idiom "friends with benefits"...

I paid part contributions whilst working part time when I claimed for JSA I was told I had to go on income based and was awarded £10.10 a week because my mum had sent me £200 a month the previous two months before to try and help me. I was entitled to housing benefit but landlord wouldn't sign the forms because he'd lied about the status of our house so I had £400 of rent and bills to pay and £240.40 coming in each month. I was cross about my contributions going towards nothing and having to struggle when I've always worked hard and genuinely fell on hard times but I think it would have been a lot easier if I'd had a partner to support me! I hope you find employment soon but at least you've got a long term partner and one income coming into your household.
