Travel Insurance for a PGL UK Activity Holiday

Hi,
My wife and the kids are going on a PGL activity holiday in the UK for 4 nights. PGL wanted to charge £20 pp for insurance but my wife said that I have travel insurance through my work. This is true but only if I am going with them (which I'm not as I don't have enough leave )
I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations as I have rung a couple of companies and they want a detailed itinerary which I won't have. Is travel insurance required? My wife is concerned about the liability side in case the kids accidentally damage something or hurt someone. PGL want an insurance indemnity declaration signed if we don't use their insurance.
Any suggestions would be gratefully received.
Thanks

What does the PGL insurance actually cover?0

Just found a summary
• Cover for all activities organised by PGL.
• Personal accident up to £25,000. Some benefits are reduced for under 16s. Probably covers things like loss of eye/limb etc
• Medical and other expenses up to £5 million for overseas holidays and up to £10,000 (other expenses only) for the UK. What are the ‘other expenses’? Could that cover the hotel costs of you or your wife staying close by if a kid ends up in hospital. Medical costs should be covered under NHS.
• Cancellation charges up to the cost of the holiday (maximum £5,000). Could be useful
• Luggage up to £1,500. Single item £250. Valuables limit £250. Might be covered under your home insurance
• Personal money up to £200. Might be covered under your home insurance
• Personal liability up to £1 million. Might be covered under your home insurance
• Curtailment of activities at £20 per day in summer or a pro rata refund of the ski pack (lessons, lift pass and ski school) in winter (both up to a maximum of £240). Curtailment under what circumstances – could be useful.
• Delay compensation, up to the invoice total for abandonment of overseas holidays. Compensation after 12 hours delay is £20. Not applicable
£35 excess applies
Depending on the activities, it may be difficult to get normal travel cover – you’d need to look at the activities covered and excluded.
If I was taking insurance I would probably go for PGLs cover for comfort but it depends what the indemnity form says.
ps Their website says you will be asked to complete and indemnity form.0 -
No idea what PGL holiday is.
How old are the children? Assuming they are relatively young then they are minors and so wouldnt be liable for the results of their actions. Is your wife going as some form of "responsible adult" for the group or simply going as a family? If she's supposed to be supervising other peoples kids then you may have issues but assuming not then standard travel should be fine depending what, if any, high risk activities are being done.
On the grounds its UK based even high risk items shouldnt be too much of an issue as NHS would cover all injuries in full etc0 -
Thanks for the quick replies.
PGL are a company that operates activity holidays, they do a lot of school trips but also offer family holidays. Lots of organised activities such as zipwire, archery, raft building etc.
Kids are 11 and 8 and my wife is just looking after them. I didn't think my house insurance would cover them if they are on holiday. Worth a check though, thanks.0 -
